Offenbach sensationally wins the cup in 1970

1. August 1970. Cup final. 50,000 spectators in the Niedersachsenstadion in Hanover – and a day that would change Offenbach forever.

On one side, the favored 1. FC Köln with big names like Wolfgang Overath, Heinz Flohe, and Hannes Löhr. On the other side, an Offenbach team that had not come just to participate in the final.

The Kickers played boldly, passionately, and without any respect. In the 27th minute, Klaus Winkler scored the lead and made the Offenbach dream come true for the first time. Köln pressed for the equalizer, but the OFC defended with everything it had.

After the break, the next big moment followed: Horst “Pille” Gecks scored to make it 2:0. Offenbach was suddenly very close to the cup.

Köln did not give up and reduced the score to 2:1 through Hannes Löhr. The final phase turned into a fierce battle.Every duel, every rescue action, and every second brought the Kickers closer to the greatest success in their club's history.
